Congresswomen Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) and Cheri Bustos (IL-17) Endorse Kelly Mazeski for Congress

Today, Democrat Kelly Mazeski, running to replace Peter Roskam (IL-06), announced that she received the endorsement of Congresswomen Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) and Cheri Bustos (IL-17).

“We need another woman in Congress who will work hard to push back on Peter Roskam and Paul Ryan’s radical agenda in Congress. Kelly is the kind of progressive fighter that we need in Washington because she will stand up for her constituents, not special interests,” said Jan Schakowsky (IL-09). “Peter Roskam helped write the GOP tax bill that will increase taxes for Illinois middle class families while giving tax cuts to big corporations and the super-wealthy. It’s time for change in the 6th Congressional District, and Kelly will bring that change.”

“I’ve won tough elections, and I know Kelly Mazeski has what it takes to win next November,” said Cheri Bustos (IL-17). “Kelly announced her campaign on the very day Washington Republicans voted to make Americans pay more and get less for their health insurance. With Kelly, those who live in the Illinois 6th Congressional District will have a Congresswoman who will stand up for them and represent all people of the district, not just the most privileged. Kelly is the fighter this district needs, and I am proud to support her.”

“I am incredibly honored to have the endorsements of Congresswomen Jan Schakowsky and Cheri Bustos. They are both leaders in Congress and I would be honored to have the opportunity to call them my colleagues on Capitol Hill.”

As a breast cancer survivor, and a mother of a daughter with a rare medical condition, Kelly understands that an individual’s health and financial circumstances can change in an instant because of a medical emergency. She’s running for Congress to hold Peter Roskam accountable for voting to take healthcare away from millions of Americans and helping write a tax bill that will raise taxes on Illinois middle class families while giving tax cuts to big corporations.

Bustos and Schakowsky’s endorsement comes on the heels of the Cook Political Report moving IL-06 from Lean Republican to Tossup noting that “the large Democratic primary is led by [former] financial adviser and former North Barrington Village Trustee Kelly Mazeski.”
