EMILY’s List Endorses Kelly Mazeski for IL-06

Today, EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Democrat Kelly Mazeski in the crowded Democratic primary to replace Peter Roskam (IL-06).

Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List, released the following statement:

“For Kelly Mazeski, the fight for better and more affordable health care is personal. Kelly was notified, in the midst of battling breast cancer, that her insurance company wasn’t going to cover her and her family the next year and struggled to find insurance for her daughter who has a rare medical condition. When Congressman Peter Roskam voted with Paul Ryan to make Illinois families pay more for less coverage, Kelly knew that enough was enough.

“Kelly Mazeski’s experience and perspective is exactly the change that Chicagoland families deserve in Congress—and EMILY’s List is proud to stand with her.”

“I am deeply honored to have received the endorsement of EMILY’s List,” said Kelly Mazeski. “For over 30 years, EMILY’s List has helped elect Democratic women across America, and their support will help me beat Peter Roskam next November. Roskam has turned his back on the constituents of the Illinois 6th Congressional District by repeatedly voting to take healthcare away from millions of Americans and as one of the architects of the tax reform bill that will raise taxes on Illinois middle-class families while giving tax cuts to big corporations and the super-wealthy.”

The EMILY’s List endorsement comes days after Congresswomen Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) and Cheri Bustos (IL-17) endorsed Kelly and the Cook Political Report moved IL-06 from Lean Republican to Tossup noting that “the large Democratic primary is led by [former] financial adviser and former North Barrington Village Trustee Kelly Mazeski.”
